Community Service Projects
Each year, the student council representatives and our student population will make the decisions regarding what our community service projects will be. In the past years there have been a number of projects such as "Sister Schools" and a supply drive for the King County Humane Society. During "Sister Schools" the student council sponsored the collection of new or used clothes, books, toys, school supplies, and other items for students living in Uganda. Blackwell families also hosted students visiting from Uganda last spring.
Read To Feed-a-Thon May 18th - June 5th Benefitting Heifer International
Heifer International is a charitable organization which has a unique way to end hunger and poverty worldwide. Rather than providing direct food to the hungry, they provide a family with an animal (cow, goat, pig, llama, chicken, etc) to teach them long-term self-reliance. Their mission is to provide the family with the livestock to help them help themselves. The animal, using its milk, wool, eggs, draft power, etc, can provide the families with improved nutrition and will help them earn money for education, clothes, health care, better housing and the startup of small businesses. Since 1944, Heifer International’s approach has let people make their own decisions about how to improve their lives in over 125 countries, including the USA. Everyone who receives a gift of an animal from Heifer International agrees to pass on what they have been given to someone else in need. This ensures that the gift of livestock and training helps twice as many families, and also that Heifer project participants progress from “receiver” to “giver.” For more information, please go to www.heifer.org

All the checks are in! The kids raised approximately $6050, and with corporate matching, a whopping $6931. That is enough for Heifer International to buy 12 cows, or 24 water buffalo, or 50 goats or pigs, or 300 flocks of chickens for needy families around the world. Mrs. Toresdahl's first graders donated the most in the school and they were able to choose the color HOT PINK for Mr. Bryant's hiar for the last day assembly. Way to go Bobcats! We did a great thing for a lot of people around the world. Watch for the article about our accomplishments in an upcoming Sammamish Review.
School Spirit
In the past, Student Council members have worked with their class to increase school spirit at Blackwell. There were up to four special spirit days throughout the year. Some of the day themes include: Fashion Disaster Day, Pajama Day, Sports Day, and Crazy Hair Day.
