April Lee

  • University of Washington: K-8 Post Baccaluureate Teaching Program

Mrs. Lee comments that her name is April but she was born in May! She was born in Missoula, Montana and attended several different schools between Kindergarten and graduated from Capital High School in Helena, Montana.   Her favorite elementary school memory was in the 6th grade when Mr. Lamb chose her to be Dorothy in the class puppet show of “The Wizard of Oz.”  She still has the paper mache puppet she made for the special debut.  She notes, "Mr. Lamb saw more in me than I saw in myself."

Mrs. Lee graduated from UW-Bothell’s K-8 post baccalaureate teaching program with an endorsement in Middle School Math.  Her undergraduate work at the UW was in Interdisciplinary Arts and Sciences with a minor in human rights and another minor in education.

Her favorite thing about being on the Bell staff is the amazing 3rd grade team! She started  teaching at A.G. Bell in 2011 and loves the community.  She feels people here work very hard and helped her so much when she started and still do every day. She has been employed by the Lake Washington School District since 2006 as an Instructional Assistant, an active volunteer with the PTSA since 2004, and the Golden Acorn recipient at Robert Frost Elementary in 2011. She is grateful for the range of learning experiences and teachers she was exposed to during her time teaching at Rosa Parks Elementary and as an IA at Robert Frost Elementary because they have made her creative, adaptable, and more empathetic.

Mrs. Lee has been married to the same gentleman for fifteen years.  She has lived in Washington for fifteen years, five in Everett and the rest in Kirkland.  They have three adolescent sons—the twins are fourteen years old and the youngest boy is twelve all attending schools in the LWSD.  Her family is a hodgepodge of different personalities so there is never a dull moment in their home.  They have no pets (that she is aware of :-) ).

Her hobbies are playing Sudoku, reading, traveling, bike-riding, being an amateur archaeologist, and fiddling around with technology.  She absolutely loves theatre.  As a young girl she won a few archery tournaments and for the last two summers she's taught archery to over one hundred cub scouts.

Several influential educators profoundly touched her life; consequently, at a young age, she was inspired to become a teacher. Her aim as a classroom teacher is to be a thoughtful, caring teacher committed to the lives of students.  She sees it as her role to encourage equitability in her classroom and school as they learn together.
