Welcome to the Carl Sandburg/DCS Green Team!!!
Who are we?
We are a group of parents, teachers, and staff members committed to
1) Helping to reduce our school’s impact on the environment and
2) Educating our school community about the importance of environmental issues.
Green team mission:
To reduce the environmental impact of our school and to teach our students to be good stewards of the Earth
Green Team accomplishments over the past two years:

Educated Students & Staff about recycling, increased our recycling rate from 18 to 43%

Eliminated (drastically reduced) the fliers from outside organizations

Added milk carton recycling

Changed from styrofoam trays to reusable lunch baskets

Converted to paperless Informer and added regular "Green Tips"

Applied for and received Seed Award and Sustainable Award from Dept of Ecology.With the money we purchased recycling bins for teachers, environmental books for the library, and reusable party ware.

Recycling bins to be included at all school events (ie Carnival)

Recognized by King County as a LEVEL ONE GREEN SCHOOL!!!
What’s next?
- Continue to Improve Recycling Rates to at least 50%
- Create a student Green Team
- Start Recycling Food Scraps
- Form a Student Green Team.
- Become a Level II Green School
