Welcome Message From Your PTSA President

Fall 2009

Welcome to our new and improved website!  Thank you to Jen Jarta, Megan Hayton and Mike Hayton for all of their wonderful work on the Rose Hill Elementary website - and to Susan Mathews for developing the PTSA portion of the site.  It is our hope that the consistent design will make it easier for you to find the information you need - when you need it.  As you have the chance to use the site, please feel free to email Susan with your feedback - she would love to hear your comments and suggestions.

I would like to extend a warm welcome to all of our teachers, staff, current families and new families.  The Rose Hill Elementary PTSA has a very positive relationship with the staff and teachers, and we certainly could not provide fun and enriching activities without them.  Most of our teachers and staff are also PTSA members - that alone shows how much they support what we do.  The PTSA provides a lot of support for our teachers, too.  This year, specifically, we provided funding for the Kindergarten Read Well Curriculum (for the Kindergarten Classrooms) and the Lucy Calkins: Writing Workshop (for most of the classrooms in the school).

I would also like to welcome our new principal, Karin Janik!  Your PTSA Executive Committee has already been working very closely with Mrs. Janik and are very excited about the new year together.  She is a strong supporter of PTSA, and we are thrilled to have her on board.  To learn more about Karin's background, visit the Principal's Page on the RHE website.

This year, we are also renewing our parent education classes.  Topics will range from "Emotionally Balanced Parenting" to "Self Esteem: The Keys to Success in Life".  We will be co-hosting these classes with at least two other elementary schools in our area.  RHE will be hosting the first one in the series on Monday, October 5 at 6:30pm.  Classes are free and open to everyone!

Become a PTSA member!  Every chance I get, I have to thank our members.  Our members have been and always will be important to our success.  Our members not only provide financial contributions and volunteer time, but our members also provide a voice for our children in the state legislature and in Washington DC.  The more members we have, the more our representatives are likely to vote on education bills that improve our student's education and welfare.  So thank you again!  It is never too late to become a member.  You don't even have to volunteer if you are not able to.  If you would like to become a member, please contact PTSA Membership Chair, Jennifer Mason, or print out a 2009-2010 PTSA Membership Form, fill it out, and drop it off with your check to the front office.

Based on member feedback, the PTSA goals for 2009-2010 are:

  1. Host/co-host at least two parent education sessions
  2. Increase membership by 20%
  3. Increase funding by $5,000
  4. Redesign the current website, and update it on a weekly basis.
  5. Create a Spanish Translation Committee for PTSA printed materials.
  6. Have an event run and hosted by dads.
  7. Plan and host a free family dance night.
  8. Plan and host another community service event.

Once again, welcome back!  If you have any questions or suggestions, please do not hesitate to stop me in the hall at school (I am there most days!), give me a call at 425-883-0867, or send me an email!

Sincerely,

Stephanie Moe-Quiggle, 2009-2010 PTSA President
