Music
Musical notes from Mrs Hanson.

Music at Rose Hill Elementary is about participation, learning and creating a life-time appreciation for music and the Arts.  Through a blend of music pedagogies, students experience classical, modern, and world music in their music classroom.  They learn to read music and to create music through composition and unique orchestrations to stories or themes.

All students at Rose Hill receive music instruction two times per week with the exception of ½ day Kindergarteners who have music once a week.  Students in all grades are listening, singing, and moving to music while in class.  They have opportunities to play rhythm instruments and Orff barred instruments such as xylophones as well as other classroom instruments.  Students in grades 4 through 6 play the Baroque Soprano Recorder in the spring.  Rose Hill has recorders to lend to students but it is great when students have their own instruments to bring to class.

All students in grades 3, 4, 5 and 6 are invited to participate in choir.  This year, choir rehearsals will begin September 30th and finish with a party on Dec.16th.  Rehearsals are every Wednesday morning before school, 7:45-8:20 am, in the Music Room.  You will need to complete a Choir Permission FormThe Rose Hill Choir will sing for the Lake Washington Learning Community concert on Wednesday, December 2nd starting at 7:00 PM at Lake Washington High School.  The LWLC Concert is an exciting evening of choral music sung by elementary, junior high and high school students from our region.

Students in grades 4 through 6 are invited to join the before school orchestra program at Rose Hill Jr. High.  This year, orchestra is being taught by Janet Miller.  Students in grades 5 and 6 have the opportunity to play band instruments at Rose Hill Jr. High before school.  Band classes are taught by Angie Laulainen and Eldon Leuning.  Band and orchestra classes are free.  Students and their families are responsible for providing their instrument.  Band and orchestra information is available on the Rose Hill Jr. High Music Department website.

Students in grades 1 through 6 will participate in an evening music program this year.  All evening programs begin at 7:00 PM in the school gym.  Here is a tentative list of this year’s program dates for your calendar. Be sure to check future school notices for updates and changes.
