Jump Rope for Heart
Fundraising event for the American Heart Association.

Quick Facts:

$50 raised for the American Heart Association can provide a scientist with the opportunity to participate with peers in the latest cardiovascular disease and stroke research through a professional membership for one year.

$100 can equip one hospital or health department with American Stroke Association resources to education patients, the public and health professional about stroke - our No. 3 killer and a leading cause of disability.

20 minutes of exercise most days of the week can help you keep a healthy heart.

Jump Rope for Heart   This event is important for two reasons 1) it provides an opportunity for Rockwell students to participate in a fun physical activity with their peers and 2) it supports the American Heart Association and their fight against heart disease and stroke.  Every $30 raised can provide one pediatrician, nurse or emergency healthcare provider with the specialized training to recognize and treat cardiovascular diseases in infants and children.

This year is the 30th anniversary of Jump Rope for Heart.

Heart disease is the leading cause of death in the United States.  We hope to demonstrate the broad impact that heart disease and stroke have on our community by making more of a personal connection.  In a similar manner to the event announcement poster that features students from across the country, we are featuring students from Rockwell.  For all students, regardless of whether or not they are participating in the event, there is a FORM that families may choose to complete and send it to school with a picture of their student.  These completed items will be posted on the PTA bulletin board and returned via kid mail by the end of February.  They will not be re-published.  If you have any questions about what to write on the form please contact me.  For Gabriel's form I listed his name and "Younger brother had heart transplant."

Finally, the first five levels of Thank You Gifts are on display in the library; this year the water bottle and jump rope (gift 1 & 2) are purple and gold - go Beagles!

To set up online fundraising, simply go to www.americanheart.org/jump  and click on the “I AM READY” link next to the jumper.  You can sign in if you’ve registered before or find “Norman Rockwell Elementary” in Washington and create a new account.  I’m more than happy to walk adults through signing up their students either by phone or at the library.
