I was born in Pennsylvania, but my family soon migrated (in covered wagons) to Bellevue, where I spent most of my formative years. I have a degree in psychology, a master’s in Educational Technology, and I’m also a National Board Certified Teacher and facilitator. I’m a Husky; I received my degree and teaching certificate from the University of Washington, and last year I completed the first year of a doctoral program there. I’ve taught in the Lake Washington School District for 16 years.
In elementary school I was particularly interested in two things: reading and science. I loved to search through the woods near my house for salamanders, insects and other critters. One day I trapped a mole in a glass jar and brought it home, but much to my surprise my parents insisted that I release it back to the wild. I also caught small fish in the local stream expecting them to feel right at home in a little glass fishbowl in the laundry room. It turned out that these fish liked to jump, and they all ended up behind our washing machine. Again, I was quite surprised at the reaction of my parents to this eventual discovery!
As an adult, I still enjoy reading and I participate in two book clubs. My additional hobbies are cooking and playing USTA league tennis. My children are grown, having recently graduated from various colleges around the country, and are pursuing their interests. One has his own software company in Silicon Valley, another is in the aerospace industry and my youngest has her heart set on becoming a naturopath. My husband Steve and I greatly enjoy living near downtown Kirkland with our toy fox terrier, Bubba.
I am extremely thrilled to teach at Lakeview Elementary this year. I look forward to getting to know the students, staff and parents.
