Do, re, mi, mi, mi… Hello everyone! I’m Rachel Teigen Brackett (Mrs. Brackett now), Lakeview’s K-6 music teacher. Each class at Lakeview comes to my room twice per week to sing, dance, play instruments, listen, compose, and explore the many elements of music and the arts! I also (along with Mrs. Knight) run the Leadership and Safety Patrol team at Lakeview.
Here’s a little about me:
I grew up in South Seattle, attending schools in the Highline School District. I began taking private piano lessons at age 5 and participated in band and choir from 5th-12th grade. I also performed in many plays and musicals from elementary school through college. In 8th grade I was voted “Best Line-Dancer” in my school and in high school I was voted, “Biggest Chatterbox” in the senior poll. I also loved playing sports, rollerblading, spending time with friends, family and animals, and driving around in my ’63 Chevy Belair (which my parents sadly sold when I graduated).
I have always loved learning! I received my Bachelor of Music Education Degree with a minor in Theatre from Pacific Lutheran University in 2002 and have taught K-6 Music and Multi-Arts ever since. I’ve taught at Spanaway Elementary in South Tacoma, Olympic View Elementary in Seattle, Smith and Mead Elementaries in LWSD, and this will be my 5th year at Lakeview (and I couldn’t be more thrilled)! I completed my Master’s in Education from Lesley University, specializing in “Creative Arts and Learning” in 2005 and last year was awarded my National Board Certification in Early and Middle Childhood Music. I also teach the course, “General Music Methods” for undergraduate education majors at Northwest University.
In the summer I volunteer and lead music at various camps for youth. I love to travel, exercise, eat out, drink coffee and listen to audio books. I live in Seattle with my husband Sean and our dog Buster and enjoy spending time with family and friends. In an effort to “go green” I usually bus-commute to Lakeview. Finally, my favorite quote is, “Nothing great was ever achieved without enthusiasm” -Ralph Waldo Emerson and I aim to live this and encourage our students to live this every day!
