I grew up in Seattle and enjoyed swimming, art, soccer, and playing school as a child. I earned my B.A. in art and art history at Santa Clara University. I then returned to Seattle to attain my Masters in Teaching at Seattle University. Last year, I completed the process in becoming a National Board Certified Teacher. For eleven of my thirteen years of teaching, I have taught sixth grade. I truly enjoy this age of independent thinking and enthusiasm for learning. This is my eighth year at Lakeview, and I am proud to call myself a leopard!
I have enjoyed leading our 5/6 math club at Lakeview and am excited for our sixth year. This club provides a fabulous math extension opportunity for students who are interested in learning additional math concepts, skills, and problem solving strategies. The last two years, our team has earned a plaque for highest team achievement for placing in the top 10% in the National Math Olympiad for Elementary and Middle School Students. Over 87,000 students in 5th and 6th grade participated in this competition nationwide.
In my free time, I enjoy spending time with my friends and family. I also love to travel and learn about new environments and cultures. This summer I spent three weeks in France and Italy. I have also enjoyed my travel in China, the Grand Canyon, and Costa Rica. During my free time, I enjoy art, reading, hiking, cooking, and swimming.
