The Parent Teacher Student Association (PTSA) Special Needs Group is made up of parents in the Lake Washington School District whose children receive special services and/or classroom support. Many LWSD special education teachers are also members. The group meets every month of the school year except December and June. These informative meetings provide opportunities to:
Hear presentations relevant to the needs of special needs families and children in LWSD
Learn about resources in the community
Network with other parents
Keep updated on district and PTSA issues that affect our children
Meetings are held every fourth Tuesday of the month in the LWSD Resource Center from 7-8:30 PM. 16250 NE 74th St, Redmond 98052 (in the Redmond Town Center)
Other meeting dates for the 2008-2009 school year are:
- Nov. 25th American Red Cross presentation on disaster and emergency preparedness for people with disabilities, as well as tips from our district nursing supervisor on how to be prepared at school
- Jan. 27th Special Education Law presented by Christine Thompson Ibrahim. This is a great chance to learn about your child’s rights.
- Feb. 24th Paul Vine, LWSD Director of Special Education, and his team will introduce themselves and give district special education updates. Paul will share a PowerPoint presentation with us.
- March 24th Strategies, techniques and accommodations in the classroom with Darlene Siegel from the Learning Disabilities Association (LDA)
- April 28th Supported Employment, the Working Age Adult Policy, tips for working with agencies & getting funding etc. with Cheryl Green and Kelley Faulkner. Important info for all of us as we prepare our child for the future
· May 26th Overview on creating trusts and estate planning for a child with special needs with Josh Brothers from the Dussault Law Group. Make sure that you have everything in place to secure your child’s future.
Speakers (but not meeting dates) subject to change. If LWSD cancels school the day of a meeting, the meeting will also be canceled that night.
