9th Grade LA/SS: Mexico Virtual Library

Learning Targets
  • Students will understand how social, political, economic, and geographic factors impact Mexican culture.
  • Students will explain how historical events affect Mexican culture, politics, and society.
  • Students will make connections to see how history influences an individual’s life and benefits society.

Essential Questions

  • How do social, political, economic, and geographic factors impact Mexico?
  • How have historical events affected Mexican culture, politics, and society?
  • How do these factors influence an individual citizen’s life or benefit society?

Goal

Each student will help contribute to a virtual library about Mexican history and culture.

Role

Your role is that of researcher, evaluator, and presenter.  You will use research skills to find a new website, and evaluation skills to assess the website and its overall contribution to a topic as a whole. You will be responsible for assessing our current virtual holdings and presenting a new web source to the class for future research.

Audience

Your audience is this classroom and future students of Mr. Lenocker.

Standards

You will be given a topic to research and will need to use LWSD databases to find a majority of the information. Once the resources have been exhausted, you will find one additional website that is worthy of addition to the database. In class, you will give a presentation that not only shares the information you found about your topic, but you will also present how you used our current virtual library and justify your addition of the new resource. Your presentation should explain how you used the new resource, showing the class the website and where you found your information from it.

Final Project

Each student will give a 3-5 minute presentation that 1) shares the requested information, 2)  explains how they used the current virtual library, 3) shows and justifies the new addition, and 4) demonstrates how the new addition was used to complete the research.
