Checkout Policy
Our checkout policy varies depending on which grade level the student is in.

Kindergarten and first grade students may borrow one book at a time for up to two weeks from the Everybody section.

Second through sixth grade students may check out the number of books equal to their grade level (2nd--2 books, 3rd--3 books, etc.).

Holidays, vacations, and weekends do not count as checkout days.  Items may be renewed unless a hold has been placed.

Students who need more books for classroom research may exceed their limit if they ask.

Students with books overdue may not check out any more books until the item(s) have been returned or paid for. Items that are damaged or lost will be assessed a replacement fee.  There are no fees for overdue books.

Any student or parent who has a question about an overdue book is encouraged to check with the Library staff right away. Overdue notices are emailed to parents and intermediate students periodically, and students in primary grades are reminded personally.

Most classrooms keep a library basket or tub for students to put returned books in. However, a book may become overdue while it is waiting in the classroom to be returned! Occasionaly books are also removed from classroom tubs by other students. The best policy is for students to return their books personally. Students are responsible for their books until they are actually turned into the library.

We suggest that your child have a designated place at home for keeping track of Library books. The ability to select and return Library materials is a lifelong skill, and your child’s responsibility!
