Local Scholarships                                                             

Cory O’Brien Memorial Scholarship                                                              
Eligibility:  Eastlake seniors who plan to enroll at Washington State University; Must have at least a 3.0 GPA
Criteria:  Academic record, letters of recommendation, essay, financial need
Award:  $8000
Deadline:  May 1
 
Daughters of the American Revolution – Cascade Chapter Scholarship       
Eligibility:  Seniors graduating from one of the Eastside High Schools; Must be U.S. Citizen
Criteria:  Commitment to higher education, academic record, test scores, activities, honors and awards, letters of recommendation, essay – “Why/How do we best preserve our American Patriotic Heritage”.
Award:  Two - $1000 awards
Deadline:  March 1
 
Eastside Audubon Society Scholarship                                                                   
Eligibility:  Graduating seniors with a keen interest in the environment/nature
Criteria:  Academic achievement, letter of recommendation, involvement in extra-curricular environmental/nature activities
Award: $500

Elks National Foundation Legacy Award                                                               
Eligibility:  Graduating seniors, Elks families
Criteria:  Exhibit core values of the Elks National Foundation
Award:  $4,000, four years

Elks Vocational Scholarship                                                                       
Eligibility:  Graduating seniors planning to pursue a 2 year (or less) vocational/technical course. Must be a U.S. Citizen.
Criteria:  Academic record, leadership, community service and school activities.  Short essay and letters of recommendation.
Award:  $1000
Deadline:  February 26
 
Ewing C. Kelly Scholarship                                                                                                  Eligibility:  Seniors with acceptance or application pending at an institution of higher learning.  Composite score of at least 20 on the ACT or 840 on the SAT.  Must be U.S. citizen or have a green card.
Criteria:  Applicants will be judged on academic merit, extra-curricular achievements – both scholastically and in their community – and financial need.  Personal statement and letters of recommendation are required.      
Award:  $2500
Deadline:  March 10
 
Fred G. Zahn Scholarship                                                                                        
Eligibility:  High school graduates planning to attend any accredited college or university situated in the state of Washington
Criteria:  Financial need, academic achievement, character
Award: $1500
Deadline:  April 15
 
GET Ready for Math and Science Conditional Scholarship                                 
Eligibility:  Member of the class of 2010; score a 4 on the math or science section of the high school WASL, or score above the 95th percentile on the math section of the SAT or ACT; meet the income eligibility requirements
Criteria:  Must agree to earn a bachelor’s degree in a qualified math or science program at an eligible Washington college or university; agree to work full-time in a math or science occupation in Washington for at least three years after college graduation
Award: Up to four years of free college tuition – cannot exceed the amount charged for tuition and state fees at University of Washington

“It’s Always Something” Teen Writing Contest - Gilda’s Club Seattle                
Eligibility:  Grades 9-12 
Criteria:  500 – 2000 word essay about a personal cancer experience – their own or a
loved one, schoolmate, or friend
Award:  $500 - $2500

O'Donnell Family Multiple Sclerosis Scholarship                                    
Eligibility:  Graduating seniors who have MS or have a parent who has MS.

Phyllis J. Kirkpatrick Scholarship                                                                          
Eligibility:  Senior girls who have been involved in one or more seasons of girls’ soccer at Eastlake HS.   This includes participation at any level: coach, manager, or player on one of the three girl’s teams, at any grade level.  Applicants must also have a minimum 2.5 GPA.
Criteria:  References, essay, leadership, community service, honors and awards
Award:  $1000
Deadline:  April 9
 
Pride Foundation and Greater Seattle Business Association (GSBA) Scholarships
Eligibility:  Gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender, straight-ally students as well as students from LGBT families.  Must be residents of Washington, Oregon, Idaho, Montana or Alaska
Criteria:  Educational background, financial need, demonstrated commitment to human and civil rights for all people
Award:  40 scholarships – awards up to $10,000

Seattle Hiroshima Club                                                                                           
Eligibility:  Seniors with a GPA of 3.6 or higher. One of the applicant’s parent(s), grandparent(s), or great-grandparent(s) must be from Hiroshima Prefecture.  Parent or guardian must be a member of the Hiroshima Club by October 31, 2009.
Criteria:  Academic achievement, letters of recommendation, essay
Award:  Three $1,000 scholarships

Seattle Swedish Community Scholarships                                                              
Eligibility:  Senior, residing in King County, Swedish ancestry NOT required
Criteria: Academic record, SAT/ACT score, financial need, leadership and community service, plan to attend a college or university
Award:  8 awards - from $1,000 - $3,300
Deadline:  March 31
 
U.S. Bank’s Internet Scholarship Program                                    
Eligibility:  Seniors who plan to attend a 2 or 4-year college next year
Criteria:  Selection by random drawing process
Award:  Forty $1,000 scholarships

Villeneuve Family Spirit of DECA Scholarship                                                     
Eligibility:  Eastlake HS senior; member of Washington and EHS DECA; 3.0 GPA; Area 3 competition; at least one business course at EHS

Violet Richardson Award                                                                                          Eligibility:  Young women aged 14-17 who volunteer in the community and/or schoolCriteria:  Selection based on volunteer efforts, essay
Award:  $400 local, $1000 regional, plus a matching award for charity of winner’s choice

Washington Tech Prep Scholarship                                                             
Eligibility:  High school graduates planning to attend a community or technical college in Washington State; has earned at least 1.0 high school credit in Tech Prep classes; earned “B” or higher final grades in Tech Prep high school classes; planning to pursue a college degree or certificate in a program aligned with the Tech Prep classes taken at the high school.
Criteria:  Academic record, personal statement, teacher letter of endorsement
Award: Two $500 scholarships

AXA Achievement Scholarship                                                                                
Eligibility:  Senior, must be a U. S. Citizen
Criteria:  Ambition and drive; determination to set and reach goals; respect for self, family, and community; ability to succeed in college
Award: Forty-two at $10,000, and ten at $25,000.

Specific College Scholarships
The following scholarships must be used at the institutions offering the award
 
Boston University – Trustee Scholarship                                                     
Eligibility:  Senior interested in attending Boston University. Must be nominated.  See your counselor if interested.
Criteria:  Outstanding academic achievement, extraordinary personal qualities, significant contributions to class, school and community.
Award:  Tuition and fees for four years
Deadline:  December 1
 
South Seattle Community College – Ken Watson TransEd Scholarship   
Eligibility:  Students who plan to pursue an associate degree program at South Seattle Community College in a transportation-related program. 
Criteria:  Academic record, statement of interest, letter of recommendation
Award:  one year of tuition
Deadline:  February 1
 
Washington State University – Regents Scholars Program                            
Eligibility:  Seniors interested in attending Washington State University.
Criteria:  Outstanding academic achievement (3.8 GPA or higher), extraordinary personal qualities, significant contributions to class, school and community.
Award:  $6,000 or $10,000 for four years
