Global Reading Challenge Seven teams, each with seven fourth and fifth graders, read ten books for the King County Library program called the “Global Reading Challenge.” Each team has a copy of each of the 10 books. The winner of the school competition competes in the district competition.
This year our school winners were the Eagle Readers! They competed February 23rd at Redmond Library and did a great job! Thanks for representing our school!
Battle of the Books
Battle of the Books is a nation-wide reading incentive program designed to encourage students to read quality literature. Participation is voluntary for 6th graders. Students form their own teams of four, and then compete as teams to answer questions from 12 books selected from award winning literature.
Battle of the Books is supported by the school library and librarian. The competition happens at lunch recess during the month of January. Explorer/ED Battle Team is selected by a double elimination tournament style competition. Our team will complete with other LWSD elementary schools with the librarian moderating via the Internet.
Battle Books can be checked out in the ED Library as well as the Redmond public library.
This year's Battle of the Books winner from our school were the Sparkly Purple Nail Polish Goats team. They participated in the district battles which began March 5th. Competition was fierce but our battlers did a great job! The District winner was from the West side, Rush Elementary, way to go!
