I was born in Memphis, TN in 1981 and then moved to the San Francisco Bay Area in the 3
rd grade where I remained until 1997, at which time my family relocated to Kirkland, WA. I graduated from Lake Washington High School in 2000 and then moved to Tucson, AZ to attend the University of Arizona. I graduated from UA in 2004 with a BA in Communications and returned to the Northwest to live in Seattle and pursue a career in broadcasting. Once back in Seattle, I soon decided that broadcasting was not the career field for me and began seeking employment opportunities in education which, as the son of two special education teachers and university professors, had always been a field of interest for me. I was hired by the Bellevue School District in 2005 as part of a team working in a specialized behavioral program for high school students. I taught in this program for 4 years, at first as a para-educator and later as a lead teacher and case manager.
During my last year with Bellevue, I completed my M.Ed in Special Education from the University of Washington.
After leaving Bellevue, I was hired by the Lake Washington School District as a resource room teacher at Eastlake High School where I primarily taught Math and English. At the end of my first year at EHS I was offered a position to be the special education teacher at BEST High School. During the 90’s, when I was attending high school in Kirkland, a number of my friends and my younger brother attended BEST, so I jumped at the chance to work at a school that I knew had benefited so many people close to me. As a special education teacher I am passionate about my work and derive great satisfaction from helping students reach their full potential.
Since returning from Tucson, AZ in 2004, I have continued to live in the Capital Hill neighborhood of downtown Seattle with my wife, Megan, and 10lb. terrier, Brutus. I love books, walking my dog, being outdoors with the trees, college basketball and football, vinyl records and live music, anything related to astronomy or black holes, volunteering locally, and traveling to new and interesting places abroad.
I sincerely enjoy working at BEST High School and hope to remain in my current position for years to come. The teachers, staff and students here are great and they make coming to work each day an enjoyable experience.
