Four years ago Alcott launched a running club and, due to the club’s huge success and popularity, we are excited to be able to offer the same running opportunities to our Alcott community this fall. Once again students in all grades are welcome to join us in this weekly after-school program.
Participants will learn about strength training, building endurance and long distance running. Once a week student runners will meet for approximately 45 minutes after school. After performing warm-up stretches led by the teachers and volunteers, the students will run a ¼ mile course on school grounds as many times as they are comfortable within the allotted time frame. A colored plastic cube will be presented to each student as they complete each ¼ mile and their distance will be tallied and recorded at the end of the session. Mileage may be accumulated by runners on their own time at home as well as after school during club time.
An exciting event (i.e. the Seattle Kids’ Marathon) awaits those runners who complete a set goal of 25 miles by Thanksgiving!
