Library Class Curriculum
In the LWSD library program, at the end of each level, students should have had experience with each critical content area. Students will not necessarily have instruction in each content area every year.
 
 

Level One - Grades K, 1, 2

  • Understands and uses circulation procedures.
  • Use proper care with materials
  • Experience a variety of genres and types of books that support the Curriculum Framework .
  • Develop literature appreciation.
  • Receive an introduction to research process.
  • Explore electronic information retrieval systems.
  • Develop awareness of multimedia technology.
  • Understand parts of a book.

Level Two - Grades 3,4,5

  • Understand organizational system of the Library.
  • Increase competence and independent use of the Library.
  • Explore a variety of genres and types of books that support the Curriculum Framework.
  • Develop literature appreciation.
  • Use the research process.
  • Use electronic retrieval systems to access a variety of information.
  • Become familiar with current multi-media technology and production.
  • Use a variety of informational sources.

Level Three - Grades 6, 7, 8

  • Use Library sources independently.
  • Become familiar with junior high library facility and resources.
  • Continue to explore a variety of genres and types of books that support the Curriculum Framework.
  • Continue to use the research process.
  • Explore a variety of search techniques.
  • Use electronic retrieval systems to access relevant information from a variety of sources.
  • Use increased variety of telecommunication technology.
