ACT CLUB NEWS

January 24, 2012

ACT Club Parents and Students,

REVIEW FROM PREVIOUS NOTE:  The first meeting of the ACT Club was on October 13th from 12:50 – 1:45 with 59 students!  We are very excited to hear ourselves sing – what a great group of singers.  We took care of some business, and then were told about our plan for this year:  Those students who came prepared with a folder and a pencil at our second rehearsal were complimented.  All students need to have a folder marked with their name, class and ACT CLUB on the front.  They also need to have a pencil tucked inside the folder.  Our music and musical scripts will be always kept in the folders and treated as if they are library books - they should not write on them except for in pencil.  Students are allowed two unexcused absences, including homework that needs done.  Academics come before choice clubs and we support classroom teachers with that policy.

NEW INFO:
MISSING SCRIPTS!!!!  Students have been given scripts and warnings that they are to be treated as library books.  They are not to be written in in anything but pencil and then erased when the musical is over.  There is more about this further in the note.  Please look at your home for scripts number 28 and 31.  Number 28 is an original scripts book, black and red and went home with a student by mistake and never made it to the correct student.  Number 31 was given to the student, but is now lost.  Please help us find these scripts.  They belong to Alcott Elementary ACT Club.  Thank you for your help.

We had a very successful holiday season, singing at Providence-Marianwood Home and Redmond Town Center, followed by cookies and hot chocolate!   Then we sang some of our songs at the Alcott Holiday Songfest.  Thank you SO much to the parents who volunteered to drive and bring refreshments.  You should have gotten a personal thank you that was given to your student to take home to you.

Scripts were passed out in November for our musical:  “Fiddler on the Roof Jr.”.  Before the snow hit, the students were allowed to choose a monologue to rehearse for auditions.  Auditions were held Wednesday, January 11th during ACT Club.  Due to the snow last week and a large number of students auditioning, we will continue those auditions on Wed. Jan 25th.  A teacher panel is judging the students in several areas, giving the students a total score.  Parts will be given out according to their individual scores, and the requests of the students for parts.  Students also are signing up to be in a chorus or on the stage crew.  Students need to be responsible for their scripts, as they would a library book.  They need to write in pencil only and it must be erased before turning it in after the musical.  If they wish to highlight or write in pen – they need to make a copy on their own in order to do so.  After auditions parts will be posted outside the Music Room and we will continue learning our musical with our cast complete.   Soon I will be contacting parents who responded to the request for volunteers for the musical.  I really appreciate your help!  We couldn’t pull it all together without you!

Students may bring a recordable CD to me, labeled with their name and class and I will record the music to “Fiddler on the Roof Jr.” for them.  This will be VERY helpful when learning the music

On Tuesday, March 6, 2011 (time TBA) we will participate in the Eastlake Region Choral Concert.  This will be the performance we need to have a white shirt and black pant or skirt for.  Please make sure the skirts are just 2 inches above the knee or longer.  We will be standing on stage and the audience will be below us in the Eastlake High School performing arts auditorium.

Remember in this cold weather, singing warms your heart!  J

Sincerely,

                                                ~Ms. Baker
