Dear Parents,
We are one of the fortunate recipient schools in the Microsoft Math Partnership. The overall objectives of the partnership over the course of the next three years are as follows:

· Building awareness for rigorous math education by informing school faculty and staff, parents, and the community of the importance of rigorous math education |

· Creating a cultural shift that values rigorous mathematics education for all students and is supported through public messaging and policy advocacy |

· Increasing teachers, administrators, and math coaches mathematical content knowledge and pedagogical skills |
|
· Integrating instructional tools and resources including technology to promote algebraic thinking |
|
· Establishing and supporting professional learning communities in the schools |
|
· Developing common assessments to measure change and growth |
You will be hearing more about our partnership with Microsoft at our Curriculum Night/Open House, next Tuesday, September 25th.
Curriculum Night/Open House – Mark your calendar; our Curriculum Night/Open House is next week, Tuesday, September 25th. The evening will begin with introductions in the Auditorium at 6:30 pm. We will have some pre-training on WebGrader and Parent Access in two of our computer labs at 6:00 pm. More information will follow in next week’s parent bulletin. Magazine Drive – Our magazine drive begins today! We had a wonderful assembly going over the process for selling (and prizes) and students will be bringing home information tonight. If our school meets it’s selling goal, I have agreed to get slimed (something that should definitely not be missed). Woo hoo! Let the selling frenzy begin! Our first turn in day for money and orders will be next Tuesday, September 25th. If you have questions about the magazine drive, you may contact Mrs. Sierer (Wegener) at bwegener@lwsd.org.
Emergency Information and Nurse Alert Cards – Please return the blue Emergency Information Card and the salmon colored Nurse Alert card to Ms. Pollett in the Counseling Office. This information is invaluable to use in the event of an emergency. If you have any questions or need another card, you may contact Ms. Pollett, jpollett@lwsd.org.
Parent Access – This is the program that gets you access to WebGrader, the program where you get to view your student’s grades in each class. Parent Access will also allow you to view his/her attendance, make credit card payments to school lunch accounts anytime day or night, and fill out volunteer applications online for LWSD schools! There is a link on the district website explaining how parents can set up their Parent Access for WebGrader. It's at http://www.lwsd.org/Parents/Pages/Parent-Portal-Registration-Instructions.aspx. The webpage also has a link to the video that demonstrates how to access it. You will not be able to complete the registration process if the email address you are trying to use is not the one we have on file for you here at the school office. This is another good reason to return the blue emergency cards so Ms. Pollett can update your information. In addition, we have links to Parent Access login on our Rose Hill Junior High Website. Student Handbook Parent Signature Page – Students went over school rules and expectations at a grade level assembly. Please read through our school rules and expectations in the front part of the student handbook, sign the page, and return it to your student’s 1st period teacher. We have changed our Honor Level System to make it more friendly to students, parents, and staff and this new information has been taped in each student handbook. If you have any questions regarding school rules and procedures, please contact our Assistant Principal, Mrs. Bowser, ebowser@lwsd.org.
WASL Scores – Individual student WASL scores from April 2007 arrived this week and we are in the process of getting them mailed to you. Please contact us if you have not received a letter and score by this Friday, September 21st. If you have any questions regarding our WASL progress, you may contact me, jellis@lwsd.org.
Sports this week – Thursday, September 20th, JV Football at RHJH, 3:30 pm; Varsity Softball/Tennis at Finn Hill, 3:30 pm. Friday, September 21st, Varsity Football at RHJH, 3:30 pm; 7th boys basketball at RHJH, 3:30 pm; and Badminton at Evergreen JH, 3:30 pm.
