Dear Parents,
We have a “Mad About Money” assembly for students this Thursday. This assembly is sponsored by Washington State Department of Financial Institutions. Students will be given a workbook (one side in English; one side in Spanish) on Tuesday afternoon. Parents are encouraged to follow up with your student after the assembly on Thursday. Concepts covered are: wages minus deductions equals take-home pay; saving and investing always have some risk involved; don’t let advertisers make your decisions for you; and what are opportunity costs.
Other newsworthy items for this week are as follows:
Parenting Class (in Spanish) – The Redmond Neighborhood Schoolhouse will hold a free drop-in Parenting class in Spanish on Oct 20th at 10 am at Redmond Elementary. A Flier is attached to this email.

Thank you in advance for helping us!
Magazine Drive – Thank you for all of your support with our school Magazine Drive. We have raised approximately $29,000. Our portion of the proceeds is 47%, or $13,630. We may need an additional fundraiser this year to fund our ASB at current levels of participation. Magazine orders can still be placed at 4SCHOOLSONLINE.COM throughout the year and the school will continue to benefit.

Bus Driver Shortage – Our school district is experiencing a severe shortage of drivers. This may cause routes to be split when there are not enough drivers. Splitting routes means that the time to transport students may take longer and that students may be spending more time at bus stops without parent supervision. I will try and email our parent list when I am notified that a route has been split. If you are interested in driving for the school district, you may apply online through the Lake Washington School District web-site, http://www.lwsd.org/Pages/default.aspx.
Have a good week. J
