Food Services Assures Beef Safety - Lake Washington School District Food Services Department is complying with a US Department of Agriculture request to put on hold the limited amount of beef in its supplies from the Westland Meat Company, which is under investigation. Only about five percent of the beef used by Food Services comes directly from Westland. However, Food Services plans to keep beef off its menu until it can be assured that no Westland Meat Company product is among the beef provided by other suppliers.

LWSD-sponsored Internet Safety Presentation  - The Lake Washington School District has contracted with Linda Criddle, founder of LookBOTHWays, an Internet Safety consulting firm, to inform parents on how to keep their families safe in the constantly changing virtual world.

A 13 year Microsoft veteran, Criddle is the author of the award winning book “Look Both Ways - Help Protect Your Child on the Internet”, has written an online credited course entitled, Internet Safety for Educators for Washington State University, and is currently working on a complete K-12 Internet Safety Curriculum.

This presentation is not your common ‘10-tips for Internet Safety’.  Instead participants will acquire a deeper understanding of:

-         Why Internet safety is not a ‘teen’ issue; everyone faces online safety issues – even those who don’t personally use the Internet

-         The landscape of online risk - what factors create an environment ripe for abuse

-         How to identify the information you are really exposing online – not just what you think you’re exposing

-         How to think like a predator and how to avoid their traps for financial, emotional or physical exploitation

-         How to manage life on the web and the impact of information permanence

-         Why the victims of cybercrimes are NEVER at fault

-         How to create a realistic positive dialog about online safety with others

Linda Criddle encourages parents to bring their students along to hear this information together. To read more about Internet Safety, go to Linda’s website at http://look-both-ways.com.  Linda will present at Rose Hill Junior High this Tuesday evening, February 5th, from 7:00 – 9:00 pm, in our Cafeteria.   I hope you are able to attend this incredible program!

Attention 9th grade Parents – The Moving Up Ceremony Committee still needs a chair of the
Slide Show Subcommittee.  Here is a great opportunity for you to help with the 9th grade moving up ceremony.  Please e-mail or call Leigh Piper/chairperson of the 9th grade moving up ceremony at trollball@yahoo.com or 425-827-8517.  We really need someone to step forward and chair this important subcommittee!

Save the date – March 7th - Acropolis Pizza in Kirkland is sponsoring a Rose Hill Day on Friday, March 7th.  For every order accompanied by a Rose Hill flyer, Acropolis will give back 20% of the order amount to Rose Hill’s ASB fund. (Alcohol does not count toward the proceeds.)  Hours are 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. and the deal applies for dine-in or take-out.  More information in next week’s parent bulletin.  Questions?  You may contact Mrs. Sierer, bsierer@lwsd.org, for more information.

PTSA Nominating Committee - If you or someone you know is interested in serving on the PTSA's nominating committee for next year's RHJH PTSA board, please contact Liz Clinton at makbethnkc@aol.com.  Or, if you are interested in being a part of the PTSA board for next year, please contact Liz Clinton.  It's a fun and easy way to be involved at the junior high and we welcome anyone who would like to participate.  Thanks!

Thefts – There have been a couple of reports of stolen/missing items during this past week here at Rose Hill Junior High.  Please do not bring valuables to school.  If something of value must be brought to school because of a special circumstance, a student may leave it with either Mr. Ellis or Mrs. Bowser.  We cannot be responsible for stolen money, iPods, cell phones, or other electronic devices.  The Rose Hill Junior High campus has a population of approximately 700 people (with adults and children).  It is just like a small town – some people are honest and some are dishonest.  The majority of thefts seem to occur when valuables are left in backpacks or purses and left unattended for a period of time.  If you have questions about a theft, you may contact Mrs. Bowser, ebowser@lwsd.org.

Report Cards – 1st Semester Report Cards will be mailed to you by the end of this week.  If you haven’t received a report card by the middle of next week, please let us know.  You may contact Mrs. Parnell, kparnell@lwsd.org, if you need a second copy sent.

Have a great week!
