Dear Parents,
I hope you had an enjoyable spring break this past week. WASL testing for 7th and 8th graders will begin next week, starting on Tuesday. Our 9th graders will return to testing on Tuesday and Wednesday as well. For the absolute best success, students should make sure they arrive on time and have eaten a good breakfast. We have an outstanding staff here at RHJH who have integrated WASL-like test questions into our curriculum all year. I am confident our students can do well as long as they focus on answering what the question is asking, and giving it a good try. I have attached an adobe document about our state WASL testing. Thank you to all who have brought in WASL snacks. If you haven’t donated, there is still time to bring in a box of Costco granola bars or rice crispy treats.
There is a parent survey attached to this email on student discipline. Our staff has voted to move forward in looking at modifying our discipline system at Rose Hill Junior High for the 2008-2009 school year. We are gathering data from staff, students, and parents, and this data will help us tailor our discipline system to better meet our Rose Hill Junior community needs. Please take a few moments to fill out and return the survey to our student office by next Tuesday, April 15th. Thank you for your input.
Our reminders and calendar items for this week are as follows:
Calendar this week: · Fri, 4/11, Junior High Choir Festival at Redmond Junior High · Fri, 4/11, Jazz Band Field trip, Bangor Naval Base · Sat, 4/12, Music Department Garage Sale Fundraiser, 9:00 am to 3:00 pm, RHJH · Tue, 4/15, WASL testing for 7th, 8th and 9th graders
Student Check-out - Please remember to have your child sign out at the attendance window if you take them from the school campus for any length of time. It is very important that we know where students are at all times during the school day. If you have questions about our check-out procedure, you may contact Mrs. Cimburek, jcimburek@lwsd.org.
Traffic Patterns - I want to remind all parents who drop off or pick up students from school that our drop off and pick up area is in our parking lot. It is not ok to drop off students along 134th street or to make u-turns after dropping off students along 75th street. I do not want to see you receive a police citation for unlawful behavior. It is also important to model correct behaviors for our students (who in a few years will be young drivers). You may contact me at jellis@lwsd.org for information or concerns regarding our traffic patterns.
Level II Sex Offender Notice – I have attached a letter from the Kirkland Police Department regarding a Level II Sex Offender moving into the Rose Hill Elementary neighborhood. If you live in this neighborhood, please talk with your student and attend the informational meeting on Thursday, April 17th, 7:00 pm at Rose Hill Elementary with the Kirkland Police Department.
Child Safety Class - The Redmond Police Department will be presenting a FREE Child Safety class on Wednesday, April 30, 2008 from 6:30-8:30 p.m. It is recommended and appropriate for children ages 6-12 and adults are required to attend this class with their children. This is a prevention course on how to avoid dangerous situations. It will be held at the Public Safety Training Room. Some of the topics covered are:
Class size is limited so please RSVP with your name(s) to the crime prevention unit by email (jbove@redmond.gov) or by calling 425.556.2545. LWSD Math Olympiad - The LWSD Math Olympiad is held at Juanita High School on May 5th --a Tuesday night from 6:30 until about 9:00. Teams from many of the junior high schools in the district meet for this math competition. We need 7th, 8th, and 9th grade students to participate. The evening is full of games, treats, and math problems. Please contact Mrs. Folkman, cfolkman@lwsd.org, if you would like to participate.
RHJH Staff Email – The best way to contact a teacher using email is to use our lwsd.org email address, not WebGrader. Teachers and administrators check regular email daily and will be able to reply more quickly to regular emails. A list of all staff and their emails are attached to this parent bulletin. Staff members diligently answer emails within two school days.
Eastside Precision Drill Team – Please see the attached flyer if your student has an interest in the Eastside Precision Drill Team.
Plea for Pictures There will be a lot of activities for our 9th graders as our last quarter commences at RHJH. One of those activities is a ‘Moving Up’ ceremony celebrating and remembering our students’ time here at Rose Hill. Part of that ceremony is a Slide Show of Memories. We would like this to highlight all 9th graders so if you, or your student, would forward your top 5 photos to us we can incorporate them into the presentation. Some photos we’d like to see are: >Sports (any team or individual sports) >Events (school dances, parties, Halloween, socials) >Activities (band, orchestra, choir, theater, clubs, etc.) >Friends (any group shots of friends) You can send in actual photos with ‘slide show’ on the envelope, or we can accept .jpg files at: Due Date: April 15th, 2008 If you have any questions please contact: Janet Irving janetirving@comcast.net Shelly Fanning ShellyLFanning@hotmail.com
Have a great weekend.
