Head Start is a federally funded program based on income eligibility that offers services for the entire family. The heart of our Head Start program is preschool classes for children. The high quality preschool experience provided is aimed at kindergarten readiness. Children participate in learning activities including social development and problem-solving. They receive developmental screenings, nutritious hot meals, health screenings and follow-up.

Each classroom has at least two skilled and trained teachers who work with parents to design individual learning plans for each child. If children qualify for special education services, the services are provided as part of the preschool day. Parents are encouraged to volunteer in the classroom and to extend their child's learning and growth at home.

Each classroom is also staffed with a Family Support Specialist. Parents of Head Start children are encouraged to set goals for themselves and their families, and they receive assistance in meeting these goals. Depending on individual family needs, parents may receive assistance with employment and training, parenting skills, leadership development and social services.

How students qualify for services
The program is federally funded and free to eligible families. 90% of the program's enrollment is reserved for families whose income is at or below the poverty level, while 10% is available to children facing other challenges, including disabilities.
