All Lake Washington School District students have the right to public education. The U.S. Supreme Court ruled in Plyler vs. Doe (457 U.S. 202 (1982)) that undocumented children and young adults have the same right to attend public primary and secondary schools as do U.S. citizens and permanent residents. Lake Washington does not ask for or collect immigration status information.
Lake Washington School District has a long-standing commitment to sustainability. Lake Washington is a recognized leader in sustainability practices and education in the region. The district won a 2015 McKinstry Champions of Sustainability award.
District efforts focus on three interconnected goal areas:
- Student Learning:
Provide sustainability instruction to all students. Students learn through instruction on conservation and natural resources in science, social studies and other areas. Support and encourage school participation in programs like Washington Green Schools and Sustainability Ambassadors.
