Besides the traditional favorites like tetherball and four square, students at Dickinson Elementary School and Explorer Community School enjoyed another game at recess this past spring: chess.
Our district's parent and community volunteers provide tremendous support every day to our schools. Our volunteer office is involved in recruiting and placing volunteers for specific school needs, such as health screenings and the AVID program.
AVID (Advancement via Individual Determination) is a national program designed to better prepare students for college. The facilitators work with a small group of students one or two days a week for one hour.
Volunteering in LWSD - Share your talents, gain experience and inspire a child. Volunteer in the classroom, library or school office; help with after school programs or special events.
LINKS Volunteer Program - LINKS volunteers are community members looking for a specific volunteer opportunity. LINKS recruits community volunteers to act as academic mentors and lunch buddies.
