Learning Focused

We love learning. We provide a continuum of student learning opportunities and services. Our staff engages in best practice professional learning, and we embrace an ongoing cycle of organizational learning and improvement.

As an organization focused on learning, we believe that to achieve our vision for students, we must focus on three inter-related learning agendas: student learning, professional learning, and system learning.

Student Learning

Our priority is student learning. Standards based teaching and assessing practices occur at all levels, guided by four critical questions:

1. What is it we expect our students to learn?

2. How will we know if each student has learned it?

3. How will we respond when some students do not learn it?

4. How will we respond when some students already know it?

Grade level content standards are in place for each level and subject. Teachers regularly assess student learning to determine students’ needs. Teachers respond to the needs of individual learners by differentiating instruction for students in need of additional assistance and support, and for students needing additional challenge.

Professional Learning

For many students, their learning environment begins on their bus, continues at school in the classrooms, in the lunch room, in the library, on the playground, and concludes with after-school activities and athletics. Every single employee of our district plays a role in contributing the academic success of our students. We highly value all the professionals within our organization. We are committed to ensuring that we maintain high standards and expectations for all employee groups within our organization.

We provide quality training and professional learning systems to ensure that staff members work to stay current with the best practices for their role. Specific programs meet the needs of different groups of staff members. Our award-winning New Teacher Support Program, for example, helps teachers brand new to the profession experience success.

Organizational Learning

As an organization, we engage in continuous cycles of learning and improvement to ensure we are performing at the highest levels. School and district level continuous improvement processes are in place. We regularly evaluate programs and practices to determine how we improve our service to students. We engage in a defined process of: planning and learning, implementing, and evaluating to ensure our efforts are achieving our desired results.
