Walk To School Week

October 6-10, 2008

We had a very successful “Walk to School Week” here at Bell. Many thanks to our PTSA volunteers (Kim Vining,…) for all their support in.  A big highlight was Wednesday when several visitors from the city of Kirkland (firemen, policemen, paramedics and even Kirkland Mayor James Lauinger) showed up to greet our “A.G. Bell walkers” as they arrived at school.   Student safety is always a paramount concern at Bell and we dedicate a significant number of staff before and after school to insure students are safe when coming to and from school.  If you have a student at Bell who walks to school, please take time this weekend to reinforce safe walking behaviors with your family.  Some of these “safe” behaviors include:

  • ·        Walk don’t run

  • ·        Be aware of vehicles and people around you

  • ·        Stay on sidewalks

  • ·        Use crossing guards to cross busy streets

  • ·        Use bike helmets when using bikes and scooters

Working together we can all do our part to help students stay safe before, during and after school.

Thanks and take care,

Mr. Anderson

PS - Our school was even featured in a Kirkland Courier article about Walk to School Week. Here’s a link to the article - http://www.pnwlocalnews.com/east_king/kir/community/30537894.html
