Meet the Principal

Work Hard

Be Kind

Be Safe

I am starting my fifth year as principal at Lakeview Elementary. As you already know if your child attends here (or will know soon if you are new to our community) our school has wonderful students, a dedicated staff, and involved, supportive parents.

People are often curious about my background so this page provides me with the opportunity to share a little bit about me. I grew up in Sunnyside, WA which is a farming community in the eastern part of the state. As I have shared before, it is true that at different times in my life I have lived on a rabbit farm, an asparagus farm and in a gas station! My family valued education and made sure that school was a priority for me and my brother. My early school-related memories include those of a favorite school bus driver who, every Friday morning, brought us cinnamon rolls that his wife had made. Yum!

As a teenager, I found that I loved working with children and so the decision to major in education was an easy one for me. I graduated from the University of Washington (GO HUSKIES!), receiving a Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education and Speech/Drama. I taught at the Experimental Education Unit at the University of Washington before teaching school in Augusta, GA. After being a "stay-at-home-mom" for several years with my two daughters, I returned to education and taught in Sunnyside, WA. I discovered that besides enjoying my classroom work with students, I also loved working with teachers and helping to make a difference in an entire school. I pursued a Master's Degree in Educational Administration from Central Washington University and began my career in educational administration.

I have been a principal for 20 years and have been a principal in LWSD for ten years. This district, one of the top in the state, provides excellent schools for children and parents, and also for all of us who have the privilege of working here!

I am looking forward to our work together. Please do drop in and visit with me when you are in the building. If you have any questions feel free to stop by, email (lihughes@lwsd.org) or call (425.822.4517).
