2012-2013 COMMUNITY SCHOOL LOTTERY PROCEDURES
REQUIRED STEPS IN THE LOTTERY PROCESS FOR 1st – 5th GRADES
- January 11, 2012 parents attend the mandatory Information Night at 7 PM at Community School. This is the only time that Lottery Forms are available and accepted. Hereafter, the date for this yearly meeting will be posted on our website at www.lwsd.org when available.
- Complete and sign the Lottery Form and Family Commitment Agreement and turn them in to the registration table at the mandatory Information Night. A copy of your child’s birth certificate is required for applicants. Applicants must turn 6 years old on or before August 31, 2012 to be eligible for the Fall 2012 lottery.
- January 17 – January 30, 2012 parents attend a Morning Tour (classroom observation) and an Afternoon Tour (observing parents and/or students teaching). Parents must contact the school after the Information Meeting to schedule. A selection of tour dates will be available. No reminders are sent and failure to contact the school will result in your child’s Lottery Form being removed from the process.
- You must attend the mandatory Information Night and two mandatory tours in January – February of the desired entrance year. When the Lottery Form/Family Commitment Agreement are received and the above Information Meeting and two visits are completed, the student is placed in the lottery.
LOTTERY PROCESS
- February 3, 2012. A blind, computer-generated lottery process takes place. Only applicants who have completed all of the above criteria will be included in the lottery. Typically, most or all Community School vacancies occur in the first grade.
- February 15, 2012. Acceptance/wait list notification letters are sent to families.
- February 27, 2012. Community School must be notified in writing of your intention to accept or deny admittance.
- June 4, 2012. Mandatory New Parent Orientation
- June 11, 12, & 15, 2012. Mandatory New Student Visits
- Once enrollment is met, remaining students are placed on a wait list in lottery order.
ü If an opening occurs, students are called in lottery order using their original number as no new numbers are generated.
ü If no opening occurs, wait list families are required to contact the school each January with intent to remain on the wait list otherwise their name will be removed from our files.
- If a student accepts placement at another Choice School the student’s name is removed from our process.
The above lottery procedure is aligned with the Lake Washington School District.
If any of the lottery requirements described above are not completed, your child’s name will be removed from the lottery process for Fall 2012 and you may reapply for Fall 2013.
The above dates are subject to change pending the LWSD calendar.
