District Students Selected for All-Northwest and All-State Honor Music Ensembles
Seventy district students have been selected by taped audition for this year’s All-Northwest and All-State honor music ensembles. Sixteen were selected for All-Northwest music ensembles, 33 were selected for All-State music ensembles, and 21 were selected as Junior All-State music ensemble members.
These students will travel to Spokane over President’s Day Weekend in February, for three intensive days of rehearsal with several hundred of the finest students studying music in the Pacific Northwest. They will then present two gala concerts, All-State on Sunday, February 15, and All-Northwest on Monday, February 16. All-Northwest students are drawn from Alaska, Washington, Oregon, Idaho and Wyoming. All-State students are from Washington state only. Generally there are over 6000 applicants for each honor group, which typically has around 150 to 300 students selected for each.

Finn Hill Junior High Coach Named Junior High Football Coach of the Year
Mike Massena, Finn Hill Junior High’s head football coach was named Junior High Football Coach of the year for the KingCo Junior High League.
Juanita High School Student Receives Lee Johnson Student Community Service Award
Lars Myren, a senior at Juanita High School (JHS) received the Lee Johnson Student Community Service Award at the Kirkland Chamber of Commerce Luncheon on December 9, 2008. Lars is a quiet yet strong leader. One of his greatest assets is his positive relationships with people. He is well-liked, trusted and empowers others with whom he works.
During his high school career Lars has been active in the Juanita High School Drama Club. He has served on the JHS Drama Board, participated 5 drama productions. Lars has also been the technical director and the lighting director. Lars is also active in Spanish club, DECA club, Multicultural club, Jazz Choir and Concert Choir.
Lars organized the JHS Talent Show. The donations from the talent show were donated to Habitat for Humanity. For his culminating project, he organized a Toy Drive at Juanita High School. All of the toy donations will be donated to the Tree House, which supports foster children.
For the past four years, Lars has served on the Kirkland Youth Council. He was elected to the Kirkland Youth Council Leadership team in 2007 and 2008. In 2007, Lars was in charge of planning the Youth Council All-City Summit. The Youth Council hosted over 150 youth from the Kirkland junior and senior high schools. The theme of the Summit was “Eye on my Future”. In 2008, Lars is serving as Co-chair of the Youth Council.
Lars plans to attend the University of Washington next fall. He plans to major in Business and Marketing. His career goal is to be a marketing executive for a major corporation.
