Multi-Cultural Family Night at Kirkland Junior High
On Tuesday, December 9 at 7 p.m., students at Kirkland Junior High will participate in a Multi-Cultural Family Night. Students in Ruth Anderson’s Spanish classes will present projects, do traditional dances and eat food representing each students ethnic background. In addition, James Lauinger, the mayor of the city of Kirkland, will attend and have a part in the celebration.

Redmond High School Student Wins Macy’s Follow a Leader Essay Contest
Hailey Hargraves, a senior at Redmond High School (RHS), was selected as the grand prize winner of the “Macy’s Follow A Leader Essay Contest” at a luncheon that was held on Friday, November 21. Of 600 entries in the greater Seattle area highlighting the importance of education and having a passion for leadership , Hailey’s essay outlining her desire to follow Mike O’Brien, chairman of the Cascade Chapter of The Sierra Club, was selected as the grand prize winner.

Each of the 20 winners received a $1,000 savings bond for their future education or training. Additionally, by being selected the grand prize winner, Hailey won a $5,000 grand prize for RHS and will have her essay printed in The Seattle Times.

Renaissance School Holds Donation Drive
The Renaissance School of Art and Reasoning (RSAR) just completed a food and clothing drive for the Issaquah Food Bank. Combined, they donated more than 320 food items and three boxes and seven bags of clothing. Two guilds received brownies as rewards for bringing in the most items. RSAR has approximately 88 students currently enrolled.

Lake Washington High School Student Speaks at Career and Technical Education Event
Lake Washington High School (LWHS) senior, Sam Woo recently attended a conference held at the Puget Sound Skills Center and spoke to a room full of Career Technical Education (CTE) directors, school district superintendents, they mayor of Burien and several local legislators. Sam spoke of his educational opportunities and growth at LWHS in an articulate and professional manner. Sam is also the secretary of the state’s Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) club.
