High School Honor Concert to Be Held on Wednesday
Want to hear some of the finest high school musicians in Lake Washington School District? A High School Honor Concert featuring band, orchestra and choir musicians will be held in the Redmond High School gym on Wednesday, November 5, at 7:30 p.m. Students From Redmond, Eastlake, Lake Washington and Juanita High Schools and International Community School will perform in concert in a collaborative effort by district staff and guest directors, including Nik Caoile (orchestra), Ed Powell (band), and Giselle Wyers (choir). The program will include a final tribute to Jay Ellis, former music coordinator and Rose Hill Junior High Principal who passed away recently.

Kirkland Junior High Students Selected to Perform in National Honor Choir
Kirkland Junior High School students Connor Bergren, Matt Mihara and Jake Nathlich were selected out of thousands of applicants to represent Washington state in the American Choral Directors Association’s Junior High/Middle School Honor Choir in Oklahoma City, Okla., this March. It is remarkable to have three students selected from one school: only five students from the state of Washington were chosen for this chorus of just over 300 students. Connor, Matt and Jake will be singing with the finest musicians in the nation and under the direction of one of the top conductors in the world, Judy Bowers of Florida State University.

Quest Elementary Program for Highly Capable Students 2009-2010
The Quest Elementary Program for Highly Capable Students (Grades one through six) will accept applications for the 2009-2010 school year from November 3, 2008, through 4 p.m. December 3, 2008. The elementary Quest program offers two options for students who demonstrate superior ability, who exceed grade level standards in literacy and math, and who exhibit exceptional creativity in the classroom. Students who qualify for the Full Time program are enrolled in an accelerated, self-contained classroom for the full day, five days a week. Students in the Enrichment Pull Out program attend their home school four days a week and a pullout enrichment classroom one day a week.

More information can be found in the Quest information packet that will be available at all elementary schools, on the Quest Web site (www.lwsd.org/quest), and at the Quest office on the third floor of the Resource Center (425-702-3238; Quest@lwsd.org). All parents interested in the Quest program are invited to attend the Quest Elementary Information Night on Thursday, November 6, from 7 - 8 p.m. at Rose Hill Junior High School, 13505 NE 75th St. Redmond, 98052. This program will explain more specifically what Quest offers to highly capable, academically gifted children.
