Students Attend Evergreen Hospital Health Services Day
Thirty high school students from Lake Washington School District attended the first annual Evergreen Hospital Health Services Day on May 21, 2009. The purpose of the day was to explore health careers and experience first-hand the actual operations of Evergreen Hospital. Students were welcomed at Evergreen Hospital by Tom Martin, Senior Vice President - Strategic/Support Services/CIO. The students listened to a panel from Evergreen Hospital who talked about various careers in the healthcare field. Some of the careers that the students learned about over the course of the day were in the areas of radiology, central sterilization, occupational therapy, physical therapy, nursing, information technology and hospital administration. After a panel presentation, students were divided into small groups for a tour of the hospital. Some of the areas they visited were the emergency room, individual patient rooms, cafeteria, robots in the pharmacy, physical and occupational therapy department, administrative offices, gift shop and nursing stations. The tour guides explained that Evergreen Hospital is like a small city. Evergreen Healthcare creates an inclusive community health system that is the most trusted source for health care solutions. The students discovered that there a wide variety of career opportunities at Evergreen Hospital. During lunch, students had an opportunity to ask more questions and listen to a presentation on healthcare careers from Lake Washington Technical College. Lake Washington School District and Evergreen Hospital plan to make Health Services Day an annual event.
