FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
July 10, 2007, Redmond, Wash. — When school begins again in September, seven of the 49 schools in Lake Washington School District will have new principals. Four elementary schools, two junior high schools and one high school have new leadership, due to principals retiring or changing jobs. Three of the schools are part of the district’s choice school program: the job of principal for these schools is part-time and usually combined with other leadership duties in the district. The new principals are:
- Alcott Elementary, Redmond, will be led by Karen Mason, who comes to Lake Washington from neighboring Issaquah School District.
- Audubon Elementary, Redmond, will have Karen Dickens as their new principal. Dickens served as vice principal at Smith Elementary in Sammamish this year.
- Community School, Kirkland, will be added to the choice schools led by Cindy Duenas, who is also the principal at International Community School and Environmental and Adventure School.
- Keller Elementary, Kirkland, will bring Tim Stonich back to the elementary principal ranks, after serving as principal at Inglewood Jr. High, Sammamish.
- Sandburg Elementary, Kirkland, will be led by Toby Brenner. Brenner was principal at Jefferson Elementary School in Everett and returns to Lake Washington School District, where he was a vice principal.
- Inglewood Jr. High, Sammamish, has tapped Tim Patterson, who served as associate principal at neighboring Eastlake High School, also in Sammamish.
- Northstar Jr. High, a choice school located on the campus of Lake Washington High School in Kirkland, will be led by Nell Ballard-Jones. Ballard-Jones adds the Northstar principal duties to her role as assistant principal at Lake Washington High.
- BEST High School, an alternative high school in Kirkland, will be led by Jane Andrew, who is also principal of Family Learning Center. Family Learning Center supports home-schooled students in the district.
These new principals will all greet new and returning students to these schools on the first day, which will be September 4.
