FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Redmond, Wash. – Before the winter break, Lake Washington School District was closed for three days due to weather, from December 17 through 19. The district administration has been reviewing its options for handling those three days without school. It has determined that the best option is to add three more days of instruction to the school year, moving the last day of school from Tuesday, June 16, as scheduled, to Friday, June 19.
The one-page copy of the school calendar notes that the school year may be extended due to inclement weather: this option ensures that students receive the full number of instructional hours. The district also prefers avoiding interruptions to already scheduled vacations during the school year, such as spring break and mid-winter break.
Should there be more days that school is closed this year due to inclement weather, further changes to the calendar may be necessary.
