FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Redmond, Wash. – Ever wondered what happens at school board meetings? Want to hear what the board has to say but you can’t come to the meeting? The Lake Washington School District’s new webcasting technology makes it possible for district residents and employees to view the district’s Board of Directors meetings live or later on at their convenience.
The district has purchased a system from Granicus to stream video live from the Board Room at the L.E. Scarr Resource Center. As of the January 26 meeting, you can watch all board meetings on the district Web site (www.lwsd.org) from any computer, no matter where you live. In addition, board meeting video will be archived and accessible from the district Web site. The new system allows the agenda to be posted and linked to the archived video, so you can skip to a specific section of interest and watch just that section.
“As a school board, we are accountable to our community,” noted Jackie Pendergrass, school board president. “This new tool will provide citizens with easy access to board meetings and the actions of the school board.”
This system also will enable the district to make available more and longer videos via the district Web site and the internal staff site than the district’s network and servers can currently handle. Community members will see more videos on the district Web site in the future.
To view the board meeting videos, go to www.lwsd.org, then click on About Us. Click on Board Meeting Videos in the left hand column and you will be taken to that page. The January 12 and January 26 Board meetings are now archived on the site. The next meeting takes place on February 9 at 7 p.m.
The Granicus system is also used by the King County Council, Kirkland City Council, Bellevue School District, City of Bellevue, and City of Woodinville.
