K-6 Social Studies Adoption Public Review
LWSD seeks public input regarding adoption of Social Studies textbooks

Lake Washington School District is seeking public input regarding the adoption of K-6 Social Studies textbooks for implementation in the 2009-2010 school year. The materials under consideration include:

Kindergarten   Social Studies Alive! Me and My World Read-a-Loud Books
First Grade   Social Studies Alive! My School and Family Read-a-Loud Books
Second Grade   Social Studies Alive! My Community
Story Path: Families in Their Neighborhood
Third Grade   Social Studies Alive! Our Community and Beyond
Story Path: The Wampanoags and the First Thanksgiving
Fourth Grade   Washington, Our Home
Story Path: Oregon Train, Early NW Coast People
Pacific NW Native American History, The People of Cascadia
Fifth Grade   Social Studies Alive! America’s Past
Interact Simulations: Discovery, Branches of Government
Sixth Grade   History Alive! The Ancient World
Interact: DIG

The curriculum was selected by a committee of elementary teachers representing our schools. This committee spent the 2008-2009 school year developing criteria for materials selection that are aligned with district standards for Social Studies. The committee applied the selection criteria in its research of available curricula and feel that the selected materials best meet these criteria.
