FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

May 14, 2007, Redmond, Wash. – At Monday night’s meeting, the Lake Washington School District Board of Directors appointed Matthew J. Gregory to fill the remainder of the term of Bob Hughes, who resigned as of April 1. Gregory was one of four candidates who expressed interest in serving on the board.

“We were looking for a candidate who understood the community, the district, had board experience and community involvement,” noted Board President Jackie Pendergrass. “We believe that Matt Gregory has the combination of experiences and desire to serve the community that are critical to contributing as a board member.”

Gregory is an architect who is Principal and Vice President of Architectural Werks, Inc., a firm that specializes in veterinary and medical offices as well as training centers. He has experience in working on educational facilities in the past, including for the Federal Way, Highline and Lake Washington School Districts.

Gregory’s two children went through the Lake Washington School District system. His late wife, Linda (Benson) Gregory, taught in district schools for over 38 years. He volunteered at Kirkland Junior High School as advisor to the Builders Club for seven years. He has an extensive community service record, including serving on the Kirkland Planning Commission for nine years and serving as president of the Kirkland Kiwanis Club.

Gregory has employed district high school students for a part-time receptionist/file clerk position in his firm. “We were looking for someone who could replace the business perspective that Bob Hughes brought to the board,” noted Pendergrass. “Matt Gregory has personal knowledge of how our students are prepared for the work force and where we can do better.”

Gregory will serve on the board beginning with the June 4 board meeting. He will serve through the next school board election in November. He will have the option of running for election to retain the seat for a full four-year term if selected by voters.

Lake Washington School District is the sixth largest district in the state of Washington. It has over 23,000 students in 48 schools located in Kirkland, Redmond, and Sammamish, Washington.
