Community invited to groundbreaking for new elementary school in North Redmond
First of the district’s Building on Success construction projects

Building on Success logoRedmond, Wash. -- Community members are invited to attend a groundbreaking ceremony for a new elementary school in North Redmond. The ceremony will take place on May 24 at 2 p.m. at the site, 12101 172nd Ave. NE, Redmond. This is the first in a series of five groundbreaking events planned for this spring.

The new school is being funded by a $398 million-dollar bond measure approved by voters in April 2016. By mid-June, 2017, work will be underway on five schools.

Dr. Traci Pierce, Superintendent, will speak at the event. School Board members and district leaders will also attend.

The 78,000 square foot elementary school is scheduled to open by fall 2018. BLRB Architects designed the school, with input from a school construction advisory team including staff and parents. The contractor is BNBuilders Construction.

The school projects included in the 2016 bond are needed to accommodate rapidly growing enrollment, and to address aging facilities.  LWSD is the fastest-growing district in King County; and with enrollment of 29,008, the third largest district in the State. Projects on this bond measure are part of the recommendations by a Long-Range Facilities Planning Task Force. The task force’s work addresses the district’s growing enrollment and aging schools through 2029-30. To construct all the projects recommended by the task force, the district has proposed additional bonds for consideration in 2018, 2022 and 2026.

In addition to the event on May 24, groundbreaking ceremonies scheduled for this spring include:
