FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

October 2, 2007, Redmond, Wash. – The district committee that will develop the new elementary school boundaries for the Sammamish plateau area of the Lake Washington School district met for the first time on Thursday, September 27. The committee is led by Dr. Cindy Lundvall, director of student services. Also serving on the committee are:

  • Justin Blasko, principal, Smith Elementary
  • Forrest Miller, director of support services
  • Tracey Miller, principal, McAuliffe Elementary
  • Barbara Posthumus, business services coordinator
  • Shawna Rothaus, principal, Mead Elementary

The committee reviewed current and projected demographic information as well as facility capacity data. The committee reviewed the current number of permanent and portable classrooms in the three existing elementary schools as well as the new elementary school that is being built. The committee also received information on the new developments planned for the area.

“The demographic projections brought home for committee members that elementary schools on the plateau will still be close to capacity even after the new school opens,” noted Committee Chair Cindy Lundvall. “This boundary process can help ensure schools have an appropriate number of students for their building capacity but must also handle anticipated growth.”

A section has been set up on the district’s Web site to share information on the boundary process and the committee’s activities. To go there directly, go to:

or simply go to the News section of the district’s Web site and look for the link to “Plateau Elementary Boundary Change News.” Committee documents, surveys, maps and other information will be posted to the site regularly during the process.
