As shown in the chart below, student enrollment at McAuliffe, Mead, and Smith elementary schools are projected to grow dramatically over the next several years. A new school is scheduled to be open in Fall 2008 to alleviate the overcrowding. Mead Elementary is included in the process because of its proximity to the new school site and the other schools.
Projected enrollment is determined by taking current students and moving them ahead and adding in students from known future developments. Future Kindergarten students are projected based on current enrollment plus or minus the change in King County birth data five years prior.

The chart below is the "Capacity Summary." It shows the total number of classrooms currently available compared to the total classrooms expected to be needed in each school based on projected enrollment. Shaded areas show when classrooms needed exceed the school's available classrooms (exceed capacity).
Total available classrooms is determined by taking total classroom space plus existing portables minus spaces needed for music, resource rooms, pull-out Quest, etc. Classrooms needed is based on projected enrollment from 2008-09 through 2014-15.
