Lake Washington Schools District allows non-profit, charitable, or civic organizations to distribute information through the schools to students and families. Materials must be approved by the district.
Materials for students and parents/guardians
Organizations outside of the school district, with the exception of PTSAs, must receive approval from the district on all promotional materials that they wish to distribute to students and parents/guardians.
Requirements
Organizations must:
- qualify as non-profit, charitable, or civic (may be asked to show proof)
- present materials of educational civic, or cultural value
- submit materials and receive approval from the district before distribution
- include the following disclaimer on the materials:
Lake Washington School District does not sponsor, endorse, or recommend any of the organizations, services, or activities described in these materials. In consideration for the privilege to distribute these materials, Lake Washington School District shall be held harmless from any causes of action filed in any court or administrative tribunal arising out of the distribution of these materials, including all costs, attorney's fees, judgments, or awards.
Materials for teachers and staff
The district doesn’t need to approve promotional materials targeted at teachers. It’s up to the school principal or administrator to allow distribution of fliers to teachers or in school staff lounges.
Approval process
Organizations must submit fliers to the school district Communications Department for approval. Materials can be submitted via e-mail, mail or fax. E-mail is the best way to submit materials for approval. E-mail fliers to: Shannon Parthemer.

Approval takes place place on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Please submit your flier at least a week in advance of the date that you would like to receive approval.
You will be notified when your flier has been approved. Your flier will also be added to the approved list, which schools use to confirm that fliers have been approved.
Distribution process
Organizations are responsible for getting approved materials to the schools for distribution. Some schools distribute paper fliers to each student in a weekly packet. Other schools only put out a few copies in information racks or post electronic versions of the materials through an online system called Parent Organizer. Work with the schools directly to find out what their distribution procedures and requirements are.
Access the enrollment report to find out how many students are in each grade level at each school.
Posters and signs
Organizations that wish to put posters or signs on school grounds must receive approval from the school principal or building administrator. The district does not do the approval for posters and signs at schools.
