To be eligible to attend kindergarten, the child's fifth birthdate shall fall on or before August 31.
To be eligible to attend first grade, the child's sixth birthdate shall fall on or before August 31.
Underage children who have previously been enrolled in a public school system for a period of not less than four consecutive months may request transfer into a similar placement in Lake Washington School District. Underage children who have previously been enrolled in a private school which encompasses at least an accredited kindergarten through a grade 3 program for a period of not less than four consecutive months, may request transfer into a similar placement in Lake Washington School District. Underage children whose parents believe to be exceptionally qualified for
early kindergarten entrance may apply to their individual school for early entrance.
The building principal shall review records of the child requesting placement and shall review such records and other data in the areas of:
- Mental ability
- Gross motor skills
- Fine motor skills
- Visual discrimination
- Auditory discrimination
- Emotional/social development
The building principal shall have the authority to admit or not admit underage students based on review of the above criteria and the above attendance requirement. A non-refundable fee will be collected to cover the cost of the screening process, in accordance with state law. Fee waivers will be made available for families who qualify for the free and reduced lunch program.
Kindergarten students meeting the above entrance age requirement may be considered for advanced placement into first grade within the first month of attending kindergarten. This shall be at the discretion of the building principal after consultation with the child's parent(s) and teacher.
