Letters of Intent
As soon as selected by the superintendent or his/her designee, prospective
certificated employees shall be sent a "Letter of Intent" to employ
which shall indicate the tentative assignment and tentative annual salary.
Issuance of the official contract shall be subject to the final approval
by the Lake Washington School District Board of Directors.
New Contracts
Legal provisions have been established relative to the employment of
certificated personnel.
- Each prospective certificated employee shall be included in the personnel
report and submitted to the directors of the district at a regular or special
meeting thereof.
- Each certificated person employed by the board must be the holder
of an effective teacher's certificate or other certificate required by law
or SPI for the position for which the employee is employed.
- No contract shall be offered by any board nor approved by or registered
by the Educational Service District superintendent for the employment of
any teacher who has previously signed a contract to teach for that same
term in another school district of the State of Washington unless such teacher
shall have been released from obligations under such previous contract by
the Board of Directors of the school district to which he/she was obligated.
Any contract signed in violation of this provision shall be void.
All contracts shall be issued in two parts, properly signed by the superintendent.
Upon receipt, new contracted personnel shall sign and return one copy to
Personnel Services within ten (10) days of issuance.
The employment of certificated employees shall be presumed to continue
under the terms of the contract unless a certificated employee is discharged
pursuant to RCW 28A.58.450 or the employee is notified or nonrenewal in
writing by May 15, pursuant to RCW 28A.67.070.
Notification
Upon issuance of a contract, or a renewal thereof, to a certificated
person, the district shall provide notification that the terms and conditions
of employment are in the policies, rules, and regulations of the district
which are contained in the board policy manual and in agreements presently
in force between the organization representing certificated employees pursuant
to RCW 41.56 and RCW 41.59 and the district. Board policy manuals shall be located
in school offices, school libraries and at the district office. Board policies
