Five elected school board members represent the entire district. This group sets major policies. They hire a superintendent. They determine major goals for the district and hold the superintendent and staff accountable for reaching them.

The superintendent manages a staff, which is charged with carrying out his or her goals for the district. Dr. Traci Pierce is chief executive officer for the district. She took over as superintendent, replacing Dr. Chip Kimball, on July 1, 2012.
As part of Vision 2020, Lake Washington School District has revised its Student Profile, the knowledge, skills and attributes that every student needs to be future ready. This document includes the district’s vision, mission, and guiding principles – the learning environments that must be in place for students to learn everything in the Student Profile.

Lake Washington School District (LWSD) is located between Lake Washington and the Cascade Mountains, to the east of Seattle. Covering 76 square miles, LWSD is the public school district for the cities of Kirkland and Redmond as well as about half of Sammamish. On the north end of the district, some Bothell and Woodinville residents also attend our schools. The district map shows all school locations and boundaries.
